Suzuki Rock N Roll Marathon
San Diego, CA
June 6, 2004

Picking up my number at the expo on Friday. It was the last warm, sunny day of the week. Leave it to me to hit the one bad weather week in San Diego all year called "June Gloom".

This was around mile 4 before we started our long run on the highway. Yes its true- I will ask anyone to take or pose for a photo with me.

Most of the marathon was long, lonely highway such as this with no spectators and no scenery to speak of. This was the only day of the week I was happy that it was overcast and cool.

Every few miles there were groups of cheerleaders representing California high schools, so I stopped briefly to help cheer on fellow runners.

As this was the "Rock N Roll Marathon" there were 26 bands along the course. This was one of the most popular local groups. I snuck this photo in while they were in the middle of an interview with a TV station. Hello- you are suppose to be singing for me, not promoting yourselves! Where's the support?

Mile 21 and still no spectators. At this point I realized they were most likely not coming. I felt pretty strong although I was moving kind of slow by now.

The finish line! It was so cold and windy that I actually had goosebumps. When I asked someone to take this photo, he asked if I had really just run the marathon because I looked fine. Nice compliment, but too bad his thumb covered the lens...

One more marathon down... one more to go!
