Each year at their Champions Dinner, the Boys & Girls
Club of Greater Salem awards the Stephen M. O'Grady Award
to the club member who most closely embodies Stephen's beliefs
and legacy. This year's recipient was Manny Cruz.

Foundation for Salem Public Education
Teaching Grant Awarded

Each year, The Foundation for Salem Public Education awards
a special grant in Stephen's memory to honor an individual or
group who provide opportunities for leadership development and/or
activities that involve student leadership within the Salem Public
Schools. This award is presented with the hope that the spirit
of Stephen OGrady, school and community leader, will continue
to inspire the youth of the Salem Public Schools.
2010 Recipient: Laurie Mendoza. Collaborative with Linda Mason,
Bonnie Chesley, Perla Peguero, Julie Tapper, Vanessa Mason, Jan

11th Annual Spring Dance at the K of C
A huge crowd joined
us to kick off 2010 with a recrod breaking event, raising over
over $7,000 in donations as a result of ticket sales, raffles,
red sox tickets and a 50/50 that resulted in a $1,700 winner
who donated 100% of proceeds back to the foundation.

10th Annual Spring Dance at the K of C

Jeff Cross surprises his girlfriend Katie Tavella by proposing
at the 10th Anniversary Dance... she said YES! Congratulations!
In addition to this happy news, over $4,600 was raised to benefit
future Salem Little League Scholarships, and one happy donor
received over $1,100 in the 50/50 raffle.
4/20/09 Steve's Team 113th Boston Marathon

Stephen's sister Beth ran the 113th Boston Marathon in
4 hours, 27 minutes to complete her goal to run 10
marathons by Stephen's 10th anniversary. Joining her on Steve's Team are (L to R): Stephanie
Cooper, Alison Phelan, Beth, Sally Holtzman, Billy Shea and Karen
Giroux. Over $41,000 total was raised with this effort. 100%
of all donations were split between the Stephen M. O'Grady Foundation
and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem. Thank you to
everyone who supported me in this journey!

Another fun night of dancing, door prizes and raffles was
had by all, and over $4,700 was raised to benefit future scholarships.

Beth completed the
Richmond, VA marathon in 4 hours and 17 minutes. This was her

Friends of the foundation and Stephen enjoyed another fun
night at the K of C getting their groove on and raising over
$3,200! The 50/50 raffle prize of $1455 was won by Jack Dean
of Beverly.
4/17/06 Boston Marathon

Beth O'Grady completed her 6th marathon on the way to her
goal of 10 by Stephen's 10th anniversary in 2009. The final time
was 4 hours and 55 minutes.

Marine Corp Marathon, Number 5 of 10!

Beth O'Grady completed her 5th marathon in 3 years towards
her goal of completing 10 marathons by Stephen's 10th anniversary
in 2009! She ran the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington DC with
fiance Doug Bollen and finished in 4 hours, 56 minutes. Next

Boston Marathon Fundraiser
Lisa and Beth Crossing the Finish Line in a Ray of Light
Beth O'Grady and Lisa Rose completed the Boston Marathon
as Steve's Team to raise over $13,000 to benefit the Stephen

4th Annual Jason Aucone/Stephen O'Grady Sportsmanship Award
Fellowship Dinner
The 4th annual Fellowship Dinner for Salem and Beverly High School
football teams was hosted by Beverly High School at the Vittori
Rocci Post. This award is presented to a Salem and Beverly football
player who demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship during the
Thanksgiving Day game.

FleetBoston Financial Recognizes Foundation at Grand Opening

As part of their opening ceremony, the Stephen M. O'Grady
Scholarship Foundation received a $1,000 donation from FleetBoston
Financial. Our thanks go out to Branch Manager Gina Flynn and
FleetBoston for recognizing Stephen's Foundation as part of their
local charity program.

2002 Scholarships Awarded at Golf Banquet

The 2002 Stephen M. O'Grady Scholarships were awarded at
the banquet following the 3rd Annual Steve O'Grady Open. 8 Scholarships
totaling $4800 were awarded. Recipients were: Keith Crean, Catherine
Dempsey,Anthony Furnari II, Peter Goodridge, Emily Horgan, Charron
Letarte, Molly Neville and Kerri Sullivan.

Salem Little League Dance
Salem Little League
Dance to benefit the Stephen M. O'Grady Scholarship Foundation
was held at the K of C in Salem. Over $3,000 was raised to benefit
the Foundation. It was a great night full of dancing, raffles
and memories of Steve. Thanks to everyone who attended and supported
us.

Stephen M. O'Grady Memorial Scholarship
The 3rd annual Stephen
M. O'Grady Memorial Scholarship was awarded at the St. John's
the Evangelist graduation ceremony. The money for this scholarship

Scholarships totaling $6600 were awarded. Recipients were: Miguel

4/16/01 105th Boston Marathon

Kennon Anderson, a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of
Greater Salem, ran the 105th Boston Marathon to benefit the Stephen
M. O'Grady Scholarship Foundation. We are grateful for Kennon's
commitment, and our thanks goes out to those who assisted us
in raising over $6,700 in donations and sponsorships. Thank you,

Heritage Days Parade

Stephen's memory is honored in the Heritage Days parade. This
year's parade theme was Women of Salem. Stephen's sister Beth
served as division leader for the youth sports teams for the
city of Salem in Steve's memory.

The first annual Stephen M. O'Grady Scholarship awards are
given out at Salem Little League Family Day. A total of $5,500
in scholarship money is awarded.

Jimmy Fund Tournament- Steve O'Grady Award

The Steve O'Grady Award is given out at the conclusion of the
10 yr. old Jimmy Fund Tournament coordinated by Larry Shambose.
The award recognizes a player who showed traits that Stephen
exemplified: determination, self-discipline, unselfishness and
hard work. The recipient received a plaque, and an impressive
award will remain at the Boys and Girls Club to be updated with
the recipient's name each year.This years recipient is: Kevin
Johnson

Teaching Grant Introduced
In an award ceremony
at The Essex Institute Museum, the foundation for Salem Public
Education introduces a grant in Stephen's name. 2000 Recipient
is Andrew Wulf, a Salem High School teacher, who was recognized
for his efforts to encourage student leadership skills.

Middle School Tree Dedication
The 6th grade Derby Student Government of Collins Middle School
raises money to plant a Dogwood tree by the flagpole at the Middle
School in Stephen's name. A plaque at the site will read: "Are
you working hard, or hardly working?"- a famous Stephen
quote.

Giving Tree Award
Stephen receives the Giving Tree Award at SHS honors nights.
The award recognizes those who have given back to children in
the community and recognized Stephen's leadership role as a mentor
to the children of Salem. His mother Theresa O'Grady accepts
the award in his name.

St. John the Evangelist School, Beverly graduation.

Salem Little League Dance to benefit the Stephen M. O'Grady
Scholarship Foundation is held at Salem State College featuring
Roundabout. Through ticket sales, raffle prizes, and event sponsors,
over $10,000 is raised.
Little League 2000
Salem Little League honors Stephen, their former Vice President,
by placing his initials SMO on little league hats for the 2000
season. The REDS have STEVE on their sleeves.
