Teeing off on a variety of subjects

Teeing off for Stephen

Make no doubt about it; there are dozens upon dozens of great charity golf tournaments for worthy causes that tee off each week on the North Shore. But one of the more poignant ones took place yesterday: the second annual Stephen O'Grady Open golf tournament.

Once again, a large gathering turned out at Olde Salem Greens to play in the tournament named for the late and beloved Executive Director of the Salem Boys and Girls Club and Salem Little League coaching giant.

O'Grady, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver two Septembers ago, touched the lives of countless youths and adults alike with his undying devotion as coach and a role model on the baseball diamond.

Following yesterday's tournament there was dinner at the Knights of Columbus, where 11 Salem students collected over $6,000 in scholarships from the Stephen M. O'Grady Foundation. Over the past two years the foundation has awarded over $12,000 in Stephen's name.
